Antarctica is the coldest and windiest spot on the planet. In fact, the lowest temperature ever recorded on Earth was recorded in Antarctica (-129.3ºF) and the mean winter temperatures range from -40º to -94ºF. Winds are commonly measured at up to 200 miles per hour.

Billy Brown spent 6 months in Antarctica on a work/research assignment for the National Science Foundation.  During his frigid stay he found time to e-mail the 7th & 8th Grade class at Lincoln County Middle School in Stanford, Kentucky.  The class sent questions and anticipated each and every e-mail response. He shared his experiences on everything from Mars research to Fish research to Sun research.  On his way home from Antarctica to the sunny East Coast he stopped for a visit to deliver a Power Point Presentation to those students with whom he corresponded for 6 long months.

Introduction

Is it the realtors dream? Prime vacation location?

Does it fit the old adage, "It’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."? Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, highest and driest continent on the planet. It also has extreme variety of geological and geographical features from glaciers to volcanoes and frozen seas to deserts. Yes, that is right… DESERTS!

Task

View the Power Point Presentations before you complete any of the tasks. Read through the 11 tasks below and choose only one to complete.  Several of these tasks are from the National Educational Technology Standards for Students Publication from I.S.T.E. & U.S. Dept. of Ed.  It is now time to travel to end of the Earth!
